Struvite
Struvite (Magnesium ammonium phosphate) is a slow-release phosphorus fertilizer precipitated from nutrient-rich wastewater consisting of all the major essential elements required by plants . In BEE lab, we focus on recovering struvite from human urine by chemical and eletrochemical supply of magnesium. We aim to design and develop infrastructures for pilot-scale and decentralized production of struvite for utilization in real-time agricultural applications. Through the advanced facilities in our Smart Agricultural Laboratory (SAL), we validate the potential of struvite through nutritional analysis (NPK) and plant growth studies. In addition, we integrate microalgal cultivation to this technology pertaining to augment closing of phosphorus loop. This strategy establishes circular bioeconomy by integrating nutrient recovery, wastewater management and sustainable fertilizer production
